8ohm>4ohm

i hav 2 8ohm subs and my amp supports 4ohms, i have it hooted up with the both the positives from the subs connecting into one and connected to the first positive channel on my amp and the 2 negatives of the subs connected than connected on the negative of the second channel of my amp..is this right?

what is it that actually is breaking the ohms down, is it that there in series or how its bridged?
