880prs

Makes me think..

Can you run an iPod to this unit with some kind of lossless format in digital, utilizing the DAC's in the 880?

I am not sure about the digital component of the iPod connection, but I covert all my CDs with the apple lossless encoder.

In iTunes go under Edit - Preferences - Advanced - Importing and select Apple Lossless Encoder under "import using".

It does take up a lot of space on the iPod but SQ isn't compromised. Before I had 1200 songs taking up 4-8GB depending on bitrate (128-312kbps). With the same amount of songs with lossless it takes up about 26GB on my 80GB Video. This isn't much of a concern to me as SQ is important.

If thats the case, listen to CDs.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

CDs still sound better.
Is this because of the file format or something else in the iPod, or is it because of where the signal is converted to analog (iPod or Head Unit/Processor)?

I would think, if you sent either a PCM signal (CD) or a lossless signal (USB stick, iPod, SD card, etc) to the same D/A converter (not the iPod's D/A converter), then it should be indistinguishable, even through the best car system. In other words, the dac's in the iPod vs the head unit/processor being the thing that makes the CD's sound better.

Just wondering because I've not owned an iPod and am pretty ignorant about them.

What?
Lets clear this up

If he's running ACTIVE then go into NETWORK mode.

If not running active, do not go into network mode.

Done.
not running active YET... it kinda sucks that the switch for network mode is on the side and i have to pull the HU out again to switch it but oh well...

For a non active setup thats really more than enough, the roll off can be used to your advantage along with the EQ to boost rolled off frequencies to fine tune.

Well I would rather scroll through my 1200 songs and their playlists on the 880, as opposed to listening to a few songs on a CD and then switching that CD when I get bored. Everyone of my CDs can be accessed through my deck. Seems like a good deal to me.
