800prs, did my pico blow?

This happened once and then I got the unit replaced. After not even an hour's worth of playtime on the new unit this happened again. I don't know how to desribe it as other than a fast, loud crackling, that doesn't change with volume. The crackling isn't always there, sometimes it will go away for short times or go in and out.

In addition to that, I do get loud engine whine that previously wasn't there. I've only read about the wine associated with the pico fuse and not the crackling that I have. That's why I'm posting this because I am beginning to wonder if I don't have another problem.

The strange thing is that both times this problem came on suddenly when I pushed in the clutch pedal. I don't have any wires running through the engine bay and the wires are clear of the pedals.

Unplug your RCAs and test again. Are you sure it's coming from your speakers? One thing that might be the source of sound is cd-reader servos etc or the laser that's hitting the cd.

Yeah it's definitely from the speakers. It's not that loud in the video but in real life it's almost too loud to listen to. I've tried messing with the RCAs and sometimes that makes it go away but it always comes back. I ordered new RCAs becuase my current ones are crappy and almost 8 years old.

Pico issue for sure.

Ground the rca's to the chassis of the radio.

Are you using the factory ground or did you make your own ground? That could be the issue.

I didn't use any of the OEM wiring since it was hacked up. The headunit is wired directly to the battery, both + and -.

can you solder? it should almost take ya longer to find the anything near 1 ohm resistor.....lol.... go on diyma and search for the pioneer ground/pico fuse thread its got up close pic of the pico that ya replace...

i replaced my pico fuse in my 960 in about 30 minutes. It's not hard to do but you do have to open the unit which voids the warranty (obviously).

I replaced the fuse with a piece of 22ga wire (it was readily available) so I wouldn't have to worry about blowing the fuse again.

I never heard noises like that coming from mine with the pico issue, I'd send it back to pioneer again and get it fixed because it sounds like something more.
