Item(s) for Sale:

Pair of high efficiency McCauley HX32 honeycomb composite midbass drivers from the MLA series line array touring cabinets.

Item(s) Description/Condition:

Beautiful condition, one is older and shows a bit more age (see photos). These things are clean and powerful but all PA gear is, right? No, I mean these things stroke like 3/4" of an inch and don't make any mechanical noise or inter-modulation distortion because the cone is so stiff and there's copper in the motor. The clarity and detail in the midrange is unbelievable, and the midbass attack is awesome. The cone is a super-light, multi-layered composite sandwich construction with real carbon fiber, not fiberglass masquerading as carbon fiber. So stiff, you can push anywhere on the back of the cone and the entire cone moves up and down instead of the edge simply flexing.

I believe these are built by B&C Speaker for McCauley and you cannot find these drivers anywhere. They are 8 ohm but at such high sensitivity (96dB1w/1m), they will still play far louder than your normal 4 ohm gear, and by a lot. I fed them 30-60 real watts and it was all I could stand. They stroked like crazy and kept up with the TC Sounds NEO 18 with no problem. That is no easy task because that thing is loud. With some of today's full range digital amplifiers offering tons of front stage wattage, you could really beat these things up on a real 100-120 watts but they are rated for a real 400w. You can absolutely abuse these from 50-60Hz on up and they stay clean, clean, clean. Hope your doors are up to the task.

Price:

$250 shipped, CONUS. Possibly open to offers but I will ignore lowballing.

Appreciate that, bud. Haven't seen you post in a while.
Sure man anytime, those are some great looking drivers, if I didn't already have these JBL 2118h 8" mids I'd consider them as an option with my horns....and yeah I haven't been active on here in a while, be back and forth with some other projects but going to try to be more productive active on here as well

Yeah, these are begging to be matched up with some nice ID or USD waveguides.
If only I had adequate bank I snatch these up
One dollar at a time!

I'm curious to know how they'd do as a dedicated midbass. Was looking into the peerless sls 8" in the doors.
Different beasts, for sure. You could use these for that purpose but I would stick with the SLS for a dedicated midbass simply from a value standpoint, but also because I believe the SLS to be more of a woofer/subwoofer that will play low very easily. These are more of a midrange/midbass intended for higher cross points under very high power applications.

That efficiency thing though. Its very appealing. Definitely going with an 8". Concerned about using an 8 and crossing too high in a 2way
Oh, you said dedicated midbass so I was assuming a 3 way crossed at around 300-500Hz between the midrange. Yeah, if you plan to go for a 2 way configuration you will not want to go with the SLS for that. That would point you back in the direction of these but 1600-1800Hz is about as high as I would go with them. They reach higher and sound smooth well past 1800Hz but the off axis thing is a concern. Calls for a tweeter that can play low but there are plenty out there that will do it.

Would really like to move these monsters. Shoot me a PM and I will make you the sickest offer for the mids and ribbons together.
