720p vs 1080p..

Yes, ther is a difference, but a good 720p can look better than a crappy 1080p. So don't go for the cheapest, unless you do your home work. and watch out for the side by side comps at the big box stores, they are rigged to sway your choices typically

 
really it depends on your overall source

blu ray will look fantastic no matter what setting

over the air looks the best ( i think)

directv HD looks great but some channels are just upscaled from 480i and you can easily tell which are

id say yes you can tell a diffrance as long as you are comparing apples and not some 32" besyt buy special vs a calibrated projector

some blu ray players will do even 480P

any blu ray will do 720p/1080i
yes but i kind of bought one to get the best picture, not a lesser one, my point is when watching something that is 1080p(bluray) have a 1080p tv that will be capable of displaying it.
