6x9 encloser question.

Im almost done restoring a 95 Jeep wrangler. These came with a single set of 4x6 speakers up front. Since 6x9s cant even be retrofit for the small space, I was contemplating putting a set of 6x9s under the dash, pretty much on top of the transmission hump.

My question is, If I did this I would just have a custom baffle made to hold the 2 6x9s. There would be no sides, top or back. Would the 6x9s sound like complete **** just being in a baffle instead of an actual enclosure? From what I understand, the bass will be none existent but the mids and highs do not need any air to operate/sound good. I have a brand new set of infinity 6x9s and a 4 channel sundown audio amp but before I make this custom baffle that fits in the jeep I want your guys opinions on what I can expect from the sound quality? Thanks in advance for any feedback.

fiberglass it.

Jeff, I appreciate your time but that successfully answered none of my questions...

There are a couple different reasons why Im contemplating JUST a metal baffle. Am I going to get horrible sound out of some infinity 6x9s due to the fact that there will be no air chamber/enclosure?

yes will sound like ****.

make a box, a fiberglass box would be nice. give good output and look nice.

other wise just putting speakers on a board 1- will look like shitt,, 2- will sound like shitt.

the back wave will mix with front wavy,,, not good.

Again, the sound part is all I need to know, not "how it will look". It actually was going to look really good because my buddy is a sheet metal worker and makes things like custom dashboards for cars.

So If I have to make an actual enclosure, will I see a big difference in making it out of metal and rhinolining the inside and outside (sound dampening material) opposed to fiberglass?

The problem is im in a VERY tight space. I dont have enough room to make the frame out of MDF and then glass it. no where near enough room. So my friend would have to make a frame out of metal and then glass it. thats the only way I would have enough room. So at that rate, if it will sound the same, I should just have my buddy make it out of metal and rhino line it.

Thoughts on that?

Thanks Scott.
