I know that the previous generation of Alpine Type-Rs did not really have the excursion to handle their rated power at low frequencies unless the high pass was set at like 125Hz or higher with a sharp enough slope. Perhaps the current generation is better? On the other hand, some speakers that do handle the power may do it due to having a really stiff suspension which limits bass output. So personally, I take speaker power ratings with a grain of salt. As far as Alpine vs Infinity are concerned, I think both have reputation for having nice bass and midrange, but harsh tweeters. This may be less of an issue in a coaxial speaker, with tweeter being far from your ears and off axis. The SPR-68 seem to have pretty good reviews.

If you can afford Hybrid Audio M57 it may be worth trying. It's a 5x7 speaker, but it should fit in 6x8 locations. The M57 manual mentions 80watt RMS power handling, and that you can use 65Hz high pass filter with 24dB slope. This is _very_ low. Normally I would not believe this, but I own HAT Imagine speakers (slightly higher line, but Mirus is based on it), for which the manual recommends HP of 60Hz or higher, and it turned out to be true. I set my HP at 63Hz with 24dB slope, with +80watts of power running to each, and they really can take this power. Granted, they don't have the sensitivity in the bass region that some other bassier speakers have, but they make up for it with good power handling. HAT speakers also have very good overall sensitivity, so you may not even need to run massive power to them.
