My truck is 1990 gmc c1500 4.3L and setup is Soundqubed 2200, Q4-120. a have die hard platinum under hood with big 3. all ofc wiring. gonna have dual runs to everything. so I'm wondering if getting a 6 phase 320 amp is overkill for my system? i want my voltage to stay at 14volts at full tilt.

with one battery up front only i think you might dip down to 13.7 if anything haha..
Depends on wire setup.
most likely ill get a second battery but iwas wondering if i even need it with such a powerful alt? but if needed ill def get it.

This is a email i received from Mike Singer of Singer Alts... This might help clue you in since he should know what hes marketing. This quote was for my 2000 gmc sierra which has a 5.3l so it should not be much different for you.

I have a group of units that will be a direct bolt on design to your factory bracket. This case style also happens to be the same one used on 90 percent of aftermarket brackets. These alternators include my overdrive pulley to boost the idle output and engage voltage properly at low rpm.
MDL PRICE IDLE OUTPUT

3 phase styles

250A $429 160A (ideal for up to 3-4K RMS daily)

275A $449 170A (ideal for up to 4-5K RMS daily)

350A $569 200A (ideal for up to 6-7K RMS daily)

6 phase options hairpin style (high idle)

270A $529 230A (larger casing)

320A $639 200A (smaller casing)

370A $799 240A (larger casing)

SPL/series

420A $899 260A (850 rpm minimum rotor speed required to turn just this alternator on)

All units come w/ a lifetime warranty that covers any labor and return shipping (just not parts) You can add a powder coating option on any order for an additional $48.

Yea my quotes are around the same, my question is what makes the 6 phasr alts better? Whats the benefit to those vs a regular alt?

Longer lifespan and higher idle output if I'm not mistaken.

I would personally go with the 320A alt. I'm getting a 275A from him next week and I'll only be running 1700-1800 RMS for the time being. Grant it I have plans to upgrade next summer to 5k+, but I am wanting to take care of my electrical now. The way I look at it in your situation, get the bigger alt, save on batteries, or vice versa. Whichever is cheaper.
