mostly rap, alot of older style stuff like cypress hill, snoop dogg, shit like that. but trust me, when he hears late night tip on a system like im plannin, he'll nut his pants.

So, right off the bat expect to spend $1k-$1.5K on the install given the amount of equipment and since you know, given the equipment, that he will not be happy with something that isn't "custom". So that'll knock you down to $4-$4.5k for the gear right off the bat. Then figure atleast $700 in wiring and sound deadening to do the entire vehicle, so now you are down to ~$3300-$3800

what do you mean "not be happy with something not custom"?basically this all came about when we were at the car audio shop and he was lookin at the jl w7s, i told them i could get him a better sub for half the price (xxx). i told him all i had to do was go online and i can get good products for cheaper than mainstream. so here i am.

I dont know if you realize it, but you can blow 6k rather easil on sound alone, adding the video system and still comming in under 6k, your going to have to compromise some sound. Keep in mind what its going to cost to get this all installed. Trust me, it wont be cheap!

I said install, not gear. You said you weren't going to be able to do it, which I assumed meant that you would have to pay someone to do it.

For starters, the XXX mids that you originally talked about must be in an enclosure, that will be total custom work (and will not be cheap). Then, would your friend really want to spend all that money on equipment for it just to amount to nothing more than a box in the trunk and speakers/etc in factory locations, and amps screwed to the back of the seats?? Judging by the way he (or you) are "going all out" on the equipment, he'll probably want some fancy amp racks made, a fancy enclosure (which a "standard" box for 2 subs will probably cost a minimum $200 for a shop to build, and that's at the very cheapest) and possibily even some nice painted 'glass.

So, if you are going to have to pay someone to do the install, draw the line right now before you settle on equipment; Fancy or boring. Because even a "boring" will cost ~$500 for a shop to do if they have to build the box and install video, and a "fancy" will easily cost upwards of $1.5k

$6k on equipment is useless if the install doesn't properly utilize equipment and get the full potential out of the equipment.

Where do you plan on getting your equipment, that will also have a big effect. If you buy all from one store, you can keep stuff together, but if you buy all from he cheapest stores and some off ebay, who knows how long it will take for some stuff to get to you, what condition it will be in and how much it will cost. Shop around!
