$6 Dollar Gas????

Maybe if the crazies in the States weren't trying to kaibosh the pipeline from Canadian oilsands to US refineries.....

But oh...wait....that's dirty oil. Lets boycott them, and go to countries who have blood oil. Countries who harbor terrorists.......yeah. That's better than "dirty" oil.

Oh and lets pay more for it cause we have to ship it across the farking ocean....when we could have a steady tap!!!

What I want to know, is why we export 50% of American crude and then turn around to import the ungodly amounts we do at a premium. The gov't then goes on to tax it at about 1.25/gal. Oh that's right, the largest lobbyist is ExxonMobile...

Gee, if we could only drill in our own country...hmmmm...
Most industry (read optimistic) estimates put the price fluctuation at less than .05 cents a gallon, even if every known productive oil source that could be turned into refined product, and brought on line simultaneously.

Combine that with the astronomical costs of increasing refinery capability (costs that are either passed on to you as a consumer through pre-tax PPB prices, or via taxes through industry subsidies, or at the pump via local, state, and federal taxes). Not to mention the massive, incalculable Health costs. It doesn't matter if you are a dem or republican, refined oil is toxic, either pre or post combustion, there is no way around that.

Bottom line is that the 'drill here' philosophy is not, in reality, that meaningful to end use pricing.

Not to mention that we would burn through all easily extricable crude in less than two years or so...
