For components how much of a difference does it make? Could good 5.25" out perform decent 6.5's? Also what are some good 5.25"?
if you can do 6.5's do them... I have spent considerable time with my last two cars creating a 6.5" solution. In fact my 4runner had 4" stock locations... it just takes time and the guts to cut, drill, and destroy metal and door panels //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gifMy car has the space in front for 5x7, and in the back for 6x9. I would like to go with a good set of speakers in the front and some subs, but I dont know if I can get enough midbass with 5.25's. Is it possible to mount 6.5's where a 5x7 should go? Couldn't I just build something to let the speaker come a little further out the door? I dont really want to do kicks. Would it be possible to get enough midbass with 5.25?
Round Speakers VS Oval SpeakersThe subject goes as follows: A 5.25" speaker can fit in a stock 5x7" location, and a 6"-6.5" speaker can fit in a stock 6x9" location. So which should you use? It's quite simple. A round speaker is more likely to have weight evenly distributed against the Voice Coil and VC Former. This means that you can achieve clearer sound with a round speaker that with an oval speaker. On the flipside, an oval speaker will obviously have more cone area. With the same excursion as the round speaker, the larger oval cone produces more sound. An oval speaker is capable of getting louder and usually producing more mibbass than a round speaker.
There are a great many exceptions, more and more as the quality of your speakers goes up, but this is the general overview.
