Review of Subwoofer or Speaker: Massive Audio RK-6 Components

Installation:

Well the installation was a funny story. I didnt have time the last few weeks to install it and the weather was murky around here (I don't have a garage), so I went to a local 'reputable' car audio shop to have them install it, not because I couldnt but because I didnt feel like dealing with it. So they see these and say "Christ man these are huge." (They're used to the typical jl or memphis speakers..)

Then ask if they would fit, I told them it's only 1/2inch deeper than the Memphis M-Class 5x7's I had in, and they said alright. So they call me back a few hours later saying "Hey man these arent gonna fit." I asked why and their response was "Well when it's touching the metal its also touching the glass, and I havnt even trimmed the metal yet." So I ask them "Can't you just make an MDF spacer?" Then they say "Nah man it's touching the door panel already." I told them if I remember right it had ~2" of space from the hole to the panel when I had it off last time and they said "These speakers are just so big it's touching." So I ask if they could put them in the rear deck instead, and they said it wouldn't fit there either...

So at this point I tell them I'll just come pick it up (and do it myself obviously.) After a few weeks of tests I finally get some good weather and time to go outside and do it. I made a simple 1/2in MDF Spacer to mount it on (Didn't have to cut/trim the metal surrounding it, they were on crack), and of course it fits. Granted the grill on the speaker is definitely touching the door panel now, but I'm sure I could have gotten smaller MDF, but it fits and works so it's awesome.

Here's pics of my install.

Review

These replaced my Memphis M-Class 5x7's coaxials. Running the same power at 50w each (They're rated to take up to 250w RMS each, but cant until I upgrade my amp), they sound much clearer and definitely a lot louder. Hits lower notes on the mid-bass, much more noticeable mid-bass, tweeters are 'almost' too loud but sound great. Before I had my deck's HPF at ~120hz, now my deck's HPF is at 63hz with my amp's HPF around 65-70hz

With my old pairs of M-Class's, my sub would overpower my speakers, now I can hear music quite clearly when I'm at full tilt.

I plan on upgrading my amp and getting a 2nd pair for the rear. At that point I'm thinking about fiberglassing my doors to hold 2 6.5"s each, but that will wait to see how loud it is with 2 pairs of these beasts running at the appropriate power.

Overall, to sum it up, these were definitely worth the $225 a pair, and they truly are "Massive." Will definitely be buying at least one more pair, and possible another pair after that after I get my next subwoofer project done.

Nice review. You should make a video and do a distance test.
Appreciate it,

I'll do that within a few weeks, wanna get a better amp first, that and the driver's side tweeter install was a little rough, nothing bad but people know me to be a little OCD when it comes to install's before I'll get pics/videos up

Murfreesboro, I see. Good to see another Nashvillean trying the Massive line up. Let us know how more power suits you.

I've been trying the CK6's in pairing with a JL 300/2v2. After some tweaking and door work, I'm pleased.

im pretty sure you only need one if im not mistaken. if your headunit has a better crossover, id just run that, and turn the amp on full pass.
I'll have to try that, appreciate the advice

Yup getting a new 4-channel is on my to-do list for the next 3-4 weeks, just got my electrical all solidified, with my current setup i dont drop below 14v //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

A follow-up on using these after a month or so;

Gotta say I love listening to classic rock on these as well, midbass is great and can hear literally every instrument going on with artists like old crow, david bowie, citizen cope, etc

bump.. how did you remove the grill off of these? i feel so dumb right now.
I don't think anything this member posted is out of topic, he's on the review thread for the speakers he's trying to install, who better to ask then someone who's already had experience with them. If you need ant tech support with those components PM me or call Massive tech support, good choice in speakers though, I picked up the Massive line for my store and I've been impressed with the line.
