To f^cking blow them in half.....DUH?Sure enough it goes to show that no one here knows what they are talking about. Why in the world would you want a 3.5 inch magnum shell for home defense.
I want to be able to shoot 3.5" shells just so that I can shoot any 12 ga shell, I know how much they are, I just picked up a box of winchester 3.5" double X magnums cause they're getting harder to find around here. The purpose of this thread had me interested until I hit the point where the OP mentioned this is for Home Defense ONLY! LULZ, when I hit this I stopped reading and immediately looked at the comments. Sure enough it goes to show that no one here knows what they are talking about. Why in the world would you want a 3.5 inch magnum shell for home defense? The person standing at the other end will not know a difference between a 2 3/4 shell and a 3.5 shell. The only time these 3.5" shells come in handy/applicable are when you are shooting at LONG ranges e.g. geese or turkey. Even then today's technology has proven that a 3.5" is not needed with the lighter shots available.
There is a reason police officers stick to the 2-3/4" loads when doing home invasions and so on.
My recommendation is buy whatever is most comfortable to you, that is what is going to save you if this is really for home defense.
Thanks for the reply and the info, sounds liek you've cycled through quite the number of shotguns. I agree that location of the slide release button is a big factor in usability and comfort and i've always been a big fan of the button location on the 870's.I don't really like the new Remington stuff like Express or SPS lines. Finish is poor and Rem's QC has gone way down hill. If you can find a 870 Wingmaster or Police then get one. You can find older Wingmasters for pretty cheap then add the parts you want and hack the barrel down to legal length.
If you want a pistol grip I would prefer the 870, since the slide release is in front of the trigger guard. On 500/590's a pistol grip makes it a little more difficult to manipulate.
I've had both, but I always end up selling shotguns for some reason. Now I only have a Winchester 12 for hunting/clays and I had a Saiga 12 that I just sold before the current political craze //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rage.gif.0ad8a6e5565b5fddce406566fdd05149.gif
For semi-autos the Remington ones are alright. But personally I would only get Benelli, Beretta or FN. I really want an SLP.
Why do you want to shoot 3.5''? I had the 535 because I wanted that option, but you really only need those shells for turkey hunting. 3'' and 2.75'' is all you need, not to mention that 3.5'' isn't the most common available and pretty expensive for what it is. Plus with a light gun like the Mossberg those shells kick like a horse.
ive shot 870 and had a supernova tactical before, Id take the benelli again in a heartbeat. fun as hell to shoot at the range tooidk man, just never been a fan of the foregrip/pump. and they never had one local here so i'm not too aquainted with one.
sheeeit I may have to find one to shoot a bit, or at least hold and see how it feels. Yea? they come stock with ghost ring sights or something? thye do look pretty ****** though, I'll admit that.ive shot 870 and had a supernova tactical before, Id take the benelli again in a heartbeat. fun as hell to shoot at the range too
Forgot to add the sights are something else on the benelli also

****, that one has the extended mag tube on it and it looks even more BA. I just checked gander mtn online and it says sold out, but they may have one used or something. I'm definitely going to check them out, right in my price range too.![]()
they sure do, you should check one out. If you have a gander mountain/ cabelas by you more than likely they will have one.
