500wrms @ .5ohm?

My friend wants to buy my 5 ED EHQS 8's. They are all single 2ohm. According to JL Audio's website, the can be wired in parallel to .4ohms.

Is this a dumb idea, or can anyone recommend an amp that will do 500wrms at .4ohms?

He will have them sealed in the back of his PT Cruiser.

I wouldn't run a Soundstream Reference S series @ .5 ohms mono for daily use. The S and SX series was notorious for having issues with their auto switching circuitry (High power versus High Current) and even the manual states that you shouldn't run it lower than 1 ohm mono or 1/2 ohm stereo. Good luck running 5 woofers @ 1/2 ohm stereo //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

The next problem is finding an amp that will take .5 ohms daily yet only produces 500 watts RMS. If you can find an old Orion HCCA 225 or 250 with a bridging module, you might be able to get away with it. I remember seeing some of those running at a 1/4 ohm mono back in the day. The only down side is after 15 minutes of pounding on them, you can grill hot dogs on the heat sink.
