Back in the early 80's and even the mid 90's,ribbon tweeters were quite common in component installs. When Alpine came on the scene in 1980 and the cars were larger, the tweeters , were ,Phillips,Becker,Seas and JVC were either ribbon and or ferro-fluid.The ribbon has a very good sound and is quite durable. They went out of style because of their practicality. Many had dimensions of 2" x5",horn tweeters ,piezzo tweeters are in most cases are too shrill ,60khz.Sunset Stereo in Santa Rosa CAl. ,in 1981,had a demo car,1950 4 door Chevy named BEN...Ben had 3 to 4 tweeters per door,i horn,mid-range,mid bass, and 6" sub per door. The back deck had 4-10" subs, trunk had 2-12"s and 1 18" sub.The amps were Alpine, the head unit was a 7307 Alpine pre-amp unit,digital-time delay unit, and a EQ of some sort.I was like 23 then. That 7307 was a cassette-metal cr02 oxide and was as clean as our cd's of today.Almost 30 years later, our technology has changed, but good sound hasn't........Alpine50.......................
