I just spent a few hours reading this thread. http://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=2331682&page=0&fpart=1&vc=1 69Charger the guy with the orange charger in his avatar starts it off. I can't believe the results that some of the guys are getting. I plan to give it a try one day.

For those that don't want to read it, in a nutshell: Gallon of Tremclad (rustoleum) acryclic/enamel paint, Mineral Spirits for thinning, professional 4" foam rollers, fine grit sand paper, then polishing compounds. He thins to consistancy of water, rolls on a coat, then another after that's dry, then wetsands after the second coat. This is repeated 2 more times then polished out. For more indormation and pictures check the link.

being that i paint cars(among other things) for a living, when i first started out(2 years ago) i thought it would be hard to put a nice looking paint job on a car. after learning that the finished product only depends on two things, it would be extremely easy.

really having a nice looking finished product only depends on two things.

a. the prep you do before

b. how tedious you are.

you could repaint an entire car with spray paint, and as long as you put clear on it, and wetsanded and buffed it enough, it would look decent. but that is an interesting post.

Yup, like they say, "A paint job is only as good as the prep work". Although I want to try this method, I also want to practice painting with a gub. Never painted a car before, but gonna try on my blazer.
you can buy really cheap 'gubs' that will just give you a feel for it. there's a place by me, that had hvlp guns for about $50, i mean obviously they're not top of the line Devilbiss or SATA models, but for practicing and getting used to it, they're worth it. And if you ever do step up and buy a nice gun, you can use your cheapie gun to lay primer, they're usually pretty good for that.

i just found out today that the 50dollar gun i have, is the same one that my dads shop uses for all of their priming needs, and they're a very big important company in the sign and display business http://www.gpjco.com

Yeah I want to get the Harbour Freight 43430 "purple" gun. Lot's of people swear bye them for a starting gun. They say it doesn't shoot clear so well. I was thinking of just using a single stage though. Others also said to change the tip to a 1.8 from 1.4 or increase the air pressure and it shoots fine. What sucks though is that the gun is $40 right now and shipping to Canada is like $30 :S.

that's actually the exact gun i was talking about

still love my DeVilbiss GTI though

nicest gun i've ever layed my hands on. imo SATA is overrated. paying much more for a name. if you do decide to paint your blazer, send me some pms if you have any questions i'll try to help you out.
