5 or 6 channel amplifier recommendations?

I am NOT looking to spend a lot of cash, just something reasonable with decent power, that will power two sets of components (likely CDTs, because I like them hehe) and a 10" or 12" subwoofer. I think the subwoofer will be the Infinity because again, I had good luck with the dual coil one I had in my last car and I liked the sound quality of it.

I was thinking of this one:

Infinity Reference 5761a

If anybody has any other suggestions I'm open to it...

Please don't try to dissuade me... this is really a SPACE issue more than anything else.... trying to keep my setup pretty stealth mounted so just please help me pick a reasonable amp that isn't going to break my bank //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

just because you had good luck with one type of setup, does not mean that others wont be better //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

i know for a fact i was not impressed by my CDT CL61's and EF54-cv's

you would also be better off (money wise) to buy a 4 channel and a 2 channel. if you are on a strict budget i would recommend this;

youd only be spending about half what you would versus that infinity, and get almost twice the power. profile amps are minimillay overrated, and all of the ones ive ever used were abused pretty badly and run like champs (one kid got his all wet when he was trying to take his spare tire out in the rain, one kid blew one of his subs and ran his system like that and the amp kept going into protect, and after i rewired to a single sub it works like a charm)

i would also take a look at some other subs that other companies have to offer (i would recommend a dual 2 ohm version to match that amp so you can bridge it at 4 ohms and get the 400 or so watts) - look into stereo integrity magnum, ascendant audio, and soundsplinter. i would personally recommend a pair of dual 4 ohm soundsplinter RLi-8's however , but they can take a lot more power than 400w //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

and there are a lot better component sets than the CDT's out there for around the same price.

im not into the conventional frontstage equipment, so im sure you could look around just a bit more and see what the internet has to offer before you go jumping into a whole new stereo //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

just my 2 cents tho //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

The thing is that it's a space issue for me. I have limited room for a 'stealth' installation where I can put everything in hidden in the trunk, where the spare tire holder goes.

I have a 2003 M3 Coupe, if that is helpful... going to yank the harman kardan system out.

I'm open to ideas, but I don't want to give up trunk space... at least not too much of it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

So, for the front speakers I want components.. 5.25" seem to drop into the car with little effort. Clarity is key for me, I'm not a bass junky as I listen to a lot of 80s music and alternative rock. Decent thump is nice but I don't need it to be HEAVY.

I don't want to need a new alternator for the car, which is why I'm trying to go with a single amp that's not crazy on the power... a 1000w amp scares me because I'll need to add caps and such and I don't want to get into all of that. The rear speakers are going to stay stock in the car, and I'll just give them power from the amp.... i figure this way if I want to later on, I can simply drop in replacements and it's not too much work.

The sub, I want to be easily removable and provide a decent thump... also not to take up too much room of my trunk.

Anyway, there's the jist of it.... if you can figure how to make the amps stay hidden (or relatively hidden) I'm open for ideas.

Thanks!

Oh and since I'm a bit of a retard... how do you 'bridge' channels in an amp? Is there like a little button you'd hit on the amp, or something else?

Thanks for any help.

You just combine them...+ to -....thus forming a bridge, get it?? No buttons needed (there are some that have switches, however)

So let me explain how I understand it.. tell me if I'm wrong //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

If there are 6 channels, all with a + and - on each, ie, 12 terminals. The first 8 channels are going to be used for channels one, two, three, and four. Then when I get to the channels five and six, in order to bridge them, I'd run a speaker cable from the + on terminal 9, to the - on terminal 10? Then terminals 11 and 12 would be bridged?

Maybe I'm not understanding 100% //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Thanks!
