5 channel amplifier questions...

Hey all,

In an effort to do a few things:

- save space

- save money

- save wiring

I wanted to get a 5 channel amplifier. I was thinking about getting the Infinity 5350a, since I can sum the 1/2 and 3/4 channels to get a subwoofer output. The amp will run me about $250 shipped.

The big goal for me is to save money and space here, and the reason I wanted this amplifier in particular was because I only needed a 4 channel LOC with it. This way, the price of a 6 channel LOC (like $150 or so) won't drag down my budget which is limited.

I was wondering whether first, if this amp is any good. Secondly, if there is anything else in this price range that might be better and be able to sum the 1/2 and 3/4 channels for a subwoofer output. Lastly, is it possible to use a 4 channel LOC, and then another 2 channel LOC to accomplish the same thing as a 6 channel LOC? It will cost me less since the 6 channel LOCs are very advanced, and I just need to keep it simple. It also opens me up to using a different amp (I was looking at this one: http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=16919) and not worrying about 'summing' the inputs of the 1/2 and 3/4 channels for a sub output.

I appreciate any help. I know a lot of people are going to say get a 4 channel and another mono amp, but that throws off how I want to mount my system (stealth). I have a small trunk as it is (2004 RX-8) and I want to keep what I have of it. That's why I want a single amplifier.

I thought on most 5 Channels, the 5th channel was the subwoofer output channel?

The fifth channel is the subwoofer channel, but don't I need RCAs to input into it? Not all the 5 channel amps will take channels 1/2 and 3/4 and "sum" a fifth channel without RCAs... that's the question I have.

X2 on the kicker 700.5 nice amp. Just installed one today.

A lot of 5-channel amps will sum the F/R RCA inputs for the 5th channel. It should be listed in the specs as "switchable" or something like that.
