Adding to this... The NX5 is also known to overheat.Wouldnt touch one. None of them bench tested at rated power from what Ive seen.
OP you can look at the Eclipse XA5000 or the Eclipse EA3532 as well. Both are under rated and will run you somewhere around $200-$250 on the high side.
EDIT: to the OP.... I wish you luck with the PDX V9. Make certain you purchase it from an authorized source and note the return policy. Mine had a turn on/off pop and hissed as soon as signal was applied to the RCAs. I sold it at a significant loss because I was outside the return period. I could have sent it back to Alpine, but I had a been there, done that experience with a PDX-5 years ago doing the same thing. Alpine returned it back to me and stated that nothing was wrong with it. As a result, I am 2 for 2 with problematic PDX amplifiers, so I sure as heck wouldn't recommend them to anyone.
