5Ω folded horns wiring question..

Hi guys.

I plan on building two bill fitzmaurice truck tuba's for the back of my Ford van. I already have two, 4-ohm MCM 55-2421's recommended for his Truck Tuba's, but might upgrade them in the future.

I'm unsure on the best way to wire these, or what amp I should consider using/looking for.

What confuses me is that when the MCM 55-2421's are used in the truck tuba's horns, 5 ohms actual impedance will be seen because of the folded horn design. So I'm guessing the best way to wire both, would be in parallel.. Giving me a 2.5Ω load?

And since the MCM 55-2421 are rated 240W RMS peak.. Do I need a amp rated at least 500 watts at 2Ω? Or should I go higher watts if I plan, or am forced to replace the MCM 55-2421's?

Thanks!

Yep, wire them down to 2ohms. Look for an amp rated at 1000-1500W RMS at 1ohm, that will give you the power you need at 2ohms and still supply the power you need when you upgrade.

Why were those subs chosen by the way? Why does he recommend them?

I'm not sure at the moment..

But after searching, I'm wondering if I should have stepped up to the also recommended Dayton Audio DCS205-4 or Tang Band W8-740P because the cut out and screw locations will be practically impossible to change after the cabinet is complete.

I have four MCM 55-2421's just in case..

A US AMPS MD3d, 1200 WATTS rms @ 2 ohms and 650 watts RMS @ 4 ohms I'm guessing would be to much..

How about a US AMPS MERLIN SERIES MD-1D? Im tired of looking for used gear..

Oh I see they no longer make them?

Jesus, can anyone recommend a solid sub amp I can buy that will still be regarded as decent 10 years from now? Maybe even sought after?
