given you can use either or, will a 6 3/4 out perform its 5 1/4 brother? if it has comprable specs, or size doesn't matter like women say.

Unless the smaller driver has much higher excursion potential, the larger one will own it on the bottom end. If you have a dedicated midbass, then the 5 1/4 driver is really bigger than you wamt for a mid; it starts to beam at a lower freq (assuming no phase plug) than you ideally want to cross it at.

Basic point, except in some exceptional cases, the 5 1/4 mid is about the worst size out there. It will be outperformed on midbass by a larger driver and outperformed by a smaller mid in the dedicated midrage role. If you can fit the larger set, they're usually the better choice.
