4v or 8v

for most purposes 4v is fine, but keep in mind most HU's that say 4v, that is only when the volume is cranked full tilt, but it is enough for most needs, 8v is very nice and also very $$$ but more sufficent for SQ and SPL competitors, or the all out SQ nut

whats better for spl?would a 5v work good for all round?

a line driver is something that will boost your voltage to like 13 volts. Something like the Audio Control Matrix would do it nicely.. only a couple bills too. 4V head units are not RMS voltage, but they are better than conventienal ones. Get the most voltage you can, and you will lower distortion and increase spl...

ok the audio control matrix thing looks cool.where can i take a look at one?im either gonna go w/ 4 or 5v,whatever i get my hands on.

no no no you have it all wrong homie. That 14.4 Voltage is from the battery. The 4 or 5V refers to the RCAs. Too totally seperate voltages. 14.4 is a solid voltage for the power to run at. Anything higher can damage your amplifier and your whole electrical system as well. The voltage from Head Units refers Output voltage (how clean the signal is). The cool thing about the Audio Control Matrix is that the voltage is adjustable, so amps that cant take high voltage you dont have to worry about. go to audiocontrol.com to find out about it..and if i know they dont support online transactions so if you want one with a warranty i might be able to help you out. Again i say..the 14.4 voltage is from your battery...the 2-8 volts from the Head Unit refers to signal. Both are important..but it is standard for a newer car to put out 14.4 volts..the signal is where most cars lack..

so the signal from the HU is cleaner the higher the voltage?so the audio control matrix boosts my voltage right?how much could u hook 1 up for?thanks

The signal is cleaner the lower the THD

The higher voltage just lets the current flow higher. It doesnt change how clean the signal is.

ok regarding the audio control matrix...what does all these things mean?

At A Glance

Six channels of input and output

24 dB of signal gain - 13 volts peak output

12 dB of signal attenuation

PFM subsonic filter

Output level controls

Balanced differential inputs

Linkable inputs - 2 input channels to 6 output channels

Low impedance outputs

Voltage indicator LED's

what does 24db of signal gain mean?and 13v peak output?

12db of signal attenuation?i cant even spell that word let alone know what it means

PFM subsonic filter?

and the other stuff...whats all that mean?

this thing doesnt have a octave slope?and what is an octave?i still dont know.thanks a lot in advance
