4th or 6th order bandpass design help

Well designed 6th or 4th orders will give a wider spectrum of play with more output than a standard ported box.

A 4th order can be much louder but, when you go for loud with one they become very peaky. Both 6th and 4th order definitely will play a wider spectrum when designed properly.

I talked to Kevin at DD and he said I would get a 6db gain by using a bandpass enclosure

if you understand how a ported enclosure an a 4th order work you will see it is impossible for a 4th order to be louder if both are at maximum efficiency. The reason 4th orders are used in burp cars is because they are easy to get peaky and makes it easier to deal with the rear wave and cancellation.

Kevin is a customer service guy, not a tech guy. When I worked with him he was less then knowledgeable about enclosures anything technical. He normally does very well in customer service though.

So what is your take on it? Should I go standard ported instead of bandpass?

My opinion is a standard wall unless you just want a 4th order. We are doing a 3rd row wall 4th order with 4 15s right now, but it is really because the owner wants it, not what we suggested.
