4000 watt Amp

Yo! I have a Pyle 4000 watt mono block class D amp with 2-2000 watt subs and a 280 watt head unit. When I try to turn up the Volume, the amp starts to go on and off as if too much power was being sent to it! What would cause this?

What kinda wire did you use for the power and grounds and where did you run them to?

Edit: What guage wire is what I mean, sorry.
