A 5 band equalizer would work too. I was looking at the KDC X series but read reviews that they're confusing and hard to work.

Up your budget a bit and get an Alpine CDA-9887. I've had a ton of Pioneers and this beats them hands down.

If you are looking for a great HU on a budget look at this one it is pretty nice, the only problem my wife has had with it in her car is the fact it is hard to see the face plate in the day light. It looks great at night. All together it is a great little unit. If my wife can set it up then trust me it is not hard to work with.

Without a doubt I would get that KDC-X794, thats a good unit for the price. If you're on a budget this is the one for you. The only complaint I had with the X663 was not being able to see it in the day time, it looks like they fixed that so this is a good deal for a cheap HU. If you decide to go high end though go with a high end Pioneer like the PRS800 that thing will eat those Alpines for breakfast everyday and twice on sunday
