4" speakers and a sub, do I need more?

I have 4" Boston Acoustics Components up front and 4" coax in the rear powered by an alpine 5 channel amp. I recently put in a 10" sub and new head unit because I was definately missing bass. The new definately helped with the very lows but I'm still missing quite a bit of sound depth, I suppose it's the mid lows.

Is it possible to have a full range of sound out of a system like this? If not, what do I need to "finish" my system?

Also, in case it's just a setup problem - what would you reccomend I tune my crossovers at? I have seperate ones for the front, rear and sub. Anything else I should look at other than the obvious treble, bass controls?

ummm i tink you might need more midbass with those things...cuz i got some 3.5" in the front NO midbass atall just my opinion though\
I guess what I'm asking is if it could be a setup problem or is it a case where I need to have 6.5" or 6x9's to get a total range of sound?

If possible I would suggest sound dampening the area around your speakers, as well as the rest of the vehicle, that might help your midbass problem. I still don't really know if you can get as much midbass as you are probably looking for though, but just remember most of a systems quality is install dependent.

i guess you can do what the nice people here told me to do, use the 4" comps and get a 6.5" midwoofer make it a 3-way comp set

How does that work as far as wiring and powering it go? The 1" and 4" speakers take up 2 channels and the 6.5" midwoofer takes up 2 channels?

the easiest way to find out what your missing is to have a professional shop mic it and tell you what you're missing but if it's like my area they either don't have the equip. or want an arm and a leg to test it. do like i'm doing--i added 2 jl audio 6" subs that will x-ed over to play just from 100hz to about 300hz which is like the max for those little dudes.

well to my knowledge, you can get a three-way passive crossover hook up all three speakers to the crossover, and wire the crossovers to the amp using only 2 channels.

thats what ivebeen told

i still have yet to try it, but in the future i am going to
