Well, my AQ HD3 needs a home, and I've always wanted to try to make a box that is kerfed. So, this is the perfect opportunity.

I made the cuts .5" apart

Saw blade set almost as deep as the wood. Not too deep, though!

Test bend

Lookin good, and nothing is broken

Sawdust + Titebond = strong. Thank you, mobieous for the suggestion!

Skeet skeet!

Piece of MDF next to it to ensure a 90 degree bend

It might not be a government-approved method of getting 90 degrees, but it works

the .5" cuts are for kerfing or bending the wood to get a flare on the box, table saws are a lot easier to make cuts but I still find myself using my circular and guide to make larger cuts.

What is the purpose of those 1/2 inch cuts. And how much better is a table saw over a hand held circular saw...
The cuts are relief cuts. They enable the wood to bend.

And the difference between a table saw and a circular saw is like the difference between riding a bike or a ferrari on the autobahn.

nice! when can we see finished pics.

As the page was still loading and all I could see was the very first picture I wondered the same thing.

Then I looked at the rest of the thread and saw the bend creating a 90* angle but with a smoothly curved interior/

Looks really good thus far, jman.

I'll be waiting on pics of the finished product once it's done but it certainly looks like you've started in the right direction. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/thumbsup.gif.3287b36ca96645a13a43aff531f37f02.gif

I have a feeling this is gonna turn out VERY well. Great start so far!

And yes, table saws are a dream to work with. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I plan on making a second piece exactly like this one, and I will put them together to form the bottom and the sides of the box. Then, I will cut them to the correct length, and glue/screw them down to one side of the box. Then, I will make a kerfed port piece

This is the shape I'm going for:
