ok bear with me as i didnt read all the pages of responses, but here's what i know about the 3G/IP/ATT situation...

i'm currently a customer with tmobile. i used social engineering and got tmobile to WAIVE my contract cancellation fee. $200 big ones...waived!!

anyway, july 12th i'm going to the att store to pick up a 3g / start new service with ATT.

what i DO know about prices:

- $199 is the cost of the phone with a 2 year contract (flat out, you dont need a trade in, etc.)

- $36 activation fee for new customers

- even if you are a current att customer you MUST get into the 2 year contract to get the $199 price.

- the data plan is REQUIRED with the iphone; you CANNOT just have a voice plan. from what ATT reps tell me, the data plan cost has risen and you can expect a minimum of $30.

- per ATT reps, this may NOT include unlimited text messaging. they said they receive training about 1-2 weeks before the product is launched, and to check back then as the $30 data plan may NOT include unlimited text messaging.

my bill with them will be around 80-100 after taxes per month for what i want (900 anytime, unlimited txt, data, etc.) but i get a 15% discount for working for a partner company, so my bill drops $15 immediately, not bad.

being that i work for Comcast, i get practically every channel for free, (all premiums, including playboy), along with the 16meg line ($10) internet service, PLUS free access to a comcast gym, half-off all PPV's i order AND discounts with other places like att, etc. plus a 6% match dollar for dollar 401k //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

yeah but the phones blow. The only one i like is the instinct and you get ****ed into the everything plan anyway.

Still a better price then the iphone plan, but still. I don't need unlimited minutes. thank you very much.

I like my Vu. Music is pretty good on it.
