Going to run 2 runs of KnuKonceptz for the power (KCA Cable). My question is do I need to run 2 runs of ground from the unit to the battery as well? Does it matter?

Forgive my small post count...CA deleted my account cuz they felt I didnt log on enough.

it wouldn't hurt... how much power and what type of battery and what alternator?
Factory BMW Battery (Didnt have th emoney for other batts things came up) D3400 xs power battery in rear (well both batts in rear), RF BD1000.1 or something like that (newer power series) at a .5 ohm load. Mechman 320amp unit from well....mechman (thread title) lol. LMK guys! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

yeah that is a bad little amp. if you're going to run 2 runs for power, run 2 for ground since it is stretching all the way back there. It will be grounded through the body anyway but it never hurts if you can afford it.

****....I was hoping you would just be like nah bro you good! lol //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif I bought two 50' spools. So I got plenty only problem is Imma be short on the gromets. Maybe I just wont use gromets from where it goes into the trunk area. and just use them for the fire wall...thoughts??

that would work. what is there to put a grommet in when going into the trunk anyway?
Well this **** car has no drop down back seat....behind the back seats after your remove them is a freaking plate of sheet metal lol...Just amazing isnt it -_-

a with no holes near the corners? you might be boned. just make your own grommets
Yeah Imma drill some big *** holes lol. I gotta step out man but def appreciate the input...though your making me run another run haha. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Don't skimp on the grommets! You can get more from your local auto parts store, marine supply, or even hardware store.

Honestly, I don't think you need anything more than a solid ground and a 1 run of 0 gauge from the front to back, maybe 2 positives. Being that the battery(s) is in the back, most of the power is going to come straight off the battery and your alternator is going to be cranking out a steady current - much lower than 320 amps. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif Probably closer to 120-240A except under full tilt on a test tone.

At the least one run of each. For sure Im doubling on the power run as the wire to my knowledge is rated for 250amps of current so why not. As for the ground I will prob double up on it as well keep out as much noise as possible. As for the performance of the alternator it does 168amps at idle and 361 amps at full tilt. Ive decided Im going to just cut a hole in the rear to the trunk and put some lining to make it look legit. Save me about four gromets. I dont want to have to touch the electrical again as far as the main runs to the rear next year will be two 15's on 5k watts. Saving up.

If you're upgrading in the future, might as well do 1 run of each like you are saying.

You might want to understand how an alternator works..... If you were to feed 14.4V into a battery at a constant 168 amps, you would be overcharging the battery within a few minutes at idle (with no audio load).

Charging System Basics

"If you have an alternator that can produce 120 amps of current (max) and the the total current demand from the electrical accessories (including the battery) is only 20 amps, the alternator will only produce the necessary current (20 amps) to maintain the target voltage (which is determined by the alternator's internal voltage regulator). Remember that the alternator monitors the electrical system's voltage. If the voltage starts to fall below the target voltage (approximately 13.8 volts depending on the alternator's design), the alternator produces more current to keep the voltage up. When the demand for current is low, the full current capacity of the alternator is not used/produced (a 120 amp alternator does not continuously produce 120 amps unless there is a sufficient current draw). "

Short answer: You are not going to draw more than 200-220 amps with 1800 watts. In the "real world" music only draws about 1/2 - 3/4 of max power, so it will be closer to 120A. I can give you several references if you need them..... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Actually what the question was, was if I needed to run two runs...which Im going to just go ahead and do.

I guess to correct what I said. Under a load...the alternator produces 168amp at idle and 361amps at whatever they test it at from there. Thanks for all that info on that...SO the ground of the electrical from the car, is produced from the alternator or from the battery grounding to the chasis?
