3 MTX 10" Vs 2 Kicker 12"

Will buy the amp to fit the subs.

Just like a throw-in type of deal. Something that will sound good, not looking for anything reall loud.

Running on a budget.

Look through the threads around.

Throw up a few things here - one, the power. Once you start getting to 1500 RMS watts, you'll need power upgrades, and that'll cost you a nice chunk. So, if your on a budget, stay probably at at least 1200 RMS or lower, or you'll stretch the power. You'll want to do the Big 3 wire upgrade, search on the forum for that, too.

Second, you can build a much better box, for much cheaper, that will sound better. Look around and find someone here who can design a box, and you can get the sheets of MDF at Home Depot, have them cut it, and you can put it together. Get some good conductive bolts for the connections, just a few extra dollars.

Third, the MTX subs are not very good. Especially for the price. The L5's will be fairly loud, but you can do much much better for the price. Look at subs such as the RE Audio, FI Audio, and other, not so known brands. ESPECIALLY if you're looking at something that will sound good. Honestly, those MTX/Kicker subs will sound like shit, especially in a prefab box. Building your own box will make a huge difference.

Wow, sniped by quite a bit - like 6 posts o_O

The RE SX series is going to be very nice there.

Definantly looking into it. Very thankful for your advice.

Im in southeast Virginia if there are any known builders/etc in my area.

Alright so you can do like 275 for a pair of 12"s. That leaves you with 75 dollars for a custom box. I am sure you can find an amp that puts out 1000w for 150. 4G wiring kit should only be around 50 bucks as well.

Good suggestion. If you can build your own box then you can still have around 250 for subwoofers after materials and the design for hte box. That gets my vote.

And on a budget, I'd say four Kicker Comp VR 12's on a Hifonics 1606 or something like that, maybe two 12" Type R's on the same power...?

Depends on how much of that room back there you want to give up.

And out of your choices, if you absolutely have to go that way - I'd take the Kickers.
