I have a 1600w amp hooked up to my subs, it is wired to 4 ohms, puts out 500w rms @ 4 ohms. Now, no matter what setting i have set on my headunit, there is no way to blow my subs? I mean, if i had the bass set at the highest setting and the volume maxed out. because my subs at max volume will only see about 170w rms. Cause i have been playing with my headunit trying to get the best possible sound. i listen to rap. How do you guys tune your headunits?? thanks.

A clipped signal at any power level is potentially dangerous to the subwoofer(s). So, to answer your question, no, you will not be in the clear from potential hazard. And it just so happens that I have blown two version 1 W6's due to a clipped signal being sent to them.

They are Dual 6's and the amp i am using for them is a Kenwood KAC-9102D, its a 2 ohm stable amp, I cannot go down to 1 ohm, wish i could. The new 9103D is 1 ohm stable, and does 900w rms at 1 ohm, wish i had that amp or something better. I have never had these subs at their potential, wish i had a better amp, but this amp was used for 2 12's other brand, so i wanna kinda stuck with this amp. I adjusted my HU, I put the settings where it sounds best. How do you know if you are clipping?? thanks.
