Ok, Well I broke my jasper jig and was sick of making one out of wood every time I needed to cut a circle. So here is my cheap solution. The best of all, if you can measure properly this thing cuts great and is adjustable to any length you need.

what's the hex nut do? Looks like a great design! why the washers though? Once it starts turning wont the screw want to pull to the side?

you are correct, I doubt it will ever break. what hex nut? the top picture is actually a video if you click on the picture explains better

and the screw doesnt pull to the side because you arent really pulling on it just keeps you in a guide i guess you could say

I dont really get it. Wont you still be "freehanding" since the screw isnt holding everything stationary?

i guess it is kind of hard to explain. basically the screw makes you maintain constant tension. Wont allow for much movement. just goin in a circle. heres a Video and two pictures of how it works.

Wouldn't a screw that isn't threaded all the way up work better? Where it is smooth below the head

I suppose it would but it hasnt cause an issue the way it is. and i havent seen a wood screw that isnt threaded all the way. also havent looked for one lol

Good idea, I'll be using this from now on since my flimsy plastic Jasper Jig broke on me after just a few uses.

There are some screws at Home Depot, with the purple label, that have a smooth area under the head...uses a square bit.

good idea. i made one out of wood. 1/4" birch. sanded up real nice spot on measurements screws right onto the bottom of my router like a jasper jig you purchase. can use it over and over and over since most sub's be 8" 12" 15" 18" are all mostly the same cutout diameter.
