3.5" sdpeaker??

I have a 95 BMW M3 and have installed a set of comps in the kicks and door, i still have a 3.5" speaker mid in the door and want to make this a 3 way system, my question is i have only been able to find 3.5" coax speakers, can i cut the tweeter off of the coax and just use it as a mid hi or will it ruin the speaker? the tweeter mount goes up thru the main part of the speaker and unscrews and i can cut the tinsel leads to the tweeter, will this work or ruin the speaker?

ha ha ha .... if you go to the link at the bottom of Dave's post, you will find they sell a dedicated 3 1/2" mid known as the L3.
