Hey gang.

I'm getting ready to finally do my DIY components in the audi, and i need to find a good amp to give me 200w rms x 2 @ 4 ohms.

My current amp, a kenwood xxv-02A will do the power i need, but i had to replace one of the channels, so i want to get a new amp so that i don't have to worry about the channels being slightly uneven when i bridge them to run only 2 channels.

The amps i've been looking at so far are JL A-class, nakamichi (does 100 x 2 @ 8 ohms, 200 x 2 @ 4 ohms) and also at the HK-line from MA audio, keeping in mind that they're rated at 17v, so i was looking at one that was rated for 300x2 rms.

Anyone have any ideas for me? I also want something that has set-screw power and speaker terminals, because spade terminals are my mortal enemy. That was my BIGGEST gribe about my kenwood, but it's time to replace it, so i don't have to worry about what effect that replaced channel will have.

Thanks in advance, guys.

I have the massive p400.4 bridges to give 2x200w @ 4ohms. Its a good amp and massive doesent over rate their amps. It does have spade terminals tho...But all im doing is cutting down 4 ga wire and ramming it in there. Screw spades...

check on ebay for the Lightning Audio X1.800.4
It'll do 400x2 bridged, but you can gain it down //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

incredibly, extremely solid amp. I have one and beat on it, and it is yet to shut off.

$165+ ship on ebay, and it has set screws //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
Dude your like everywhere at once.

wow, alright, i'm gonna get busy comparing specs.

i figured i WOULD just go ahead and get extra power in case i need it later down the road.

Is there much of a difference in audible sound quality between a "normal" amp like i'm going to get, and an actual "sq" amp like the excellon?

PG Xenon X200.2
Great amp right there...I used one to power my CDT EF-61/CFs, until I recently upgraded to the 4 channel x200.4, basically the same amp.

I loved it because of the bandpass capabilities of the crossover, and rubber endcaps that act as grommets, so you end up with a clean install (mounting screws are inside the hole covered by the cap).

Not to mention it does its power and more, and is stable in stereo from 1-4 and bridged 2-4. Just a bunch of subtle things that make it so great.

alright guys, i think i made a mistake.

i went through parts express, and got my shopping cart ready this afternoon, and the tweeter and midrange i was thinking about getting have the SAME power handling as the woofer i wanted to use with them.

originally, i was going to use a 4 ohm woofer, so i could send 200w to the woofer, while only sending ~120 to the tweeter and midrange, but this changes my plans quite a bit.

there's a possibility i may have to run my entire setup @ 8 ohms rather than a 4 ohm woofer, and 8 ohm tweet and midrange.

a couple amps i've found so far that can do ~200w @ 8 ohms are as follows:

-MA Audio HK598 for $179+ shipping

-does 4 x 200w rms @ 4 ohms, so ~200w rms x 2 @ 8 ohms.

-lanzar opti500x2 for $228+ shipping

- does 500w x 2 @ 4 ohms, so ~250w rmx x 2 @ 8 ohms.

which of these two amps would be a better choice?

i realize my choices are getting more limited, but i think running a morel 3-way setup will be worth the hassle of finding a suitable powerplant.

running an 8 ohm setup is frustrating, tho, considering i have to buy an amp powerful enough to run type-x 12's just to run some **** components //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

i think they put out rated power at 2-8 ohm bridged.
