Anybody done any nice kickpanels in a 2k3 WRX? I'm doing the whole modular bit with my system, and have made it to the point where I believe I'm finally going to get rid of the stock speakers, but I'd rather place them in kickpanel locations ... Just wanted to see if it had been done before, and if so, if anyone's got any 'gotchas' to point out //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif fyi: I'm planning to use a kicker resolution 5.2 set with coaxially mounted tweeters.
btw - current setup is a sony CDX-M800 Head Unit with a 6-disc mp3 changer (stage one), with a 15" Kicker XPL (I had it sitting around, believe it or not //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif ) running from a Kenwood 7201 (That was step 2, bridged 4ohm @ 460watts), and stock speakers running from head unit power crossed over at 78hz. Actually, given that the car's got stock 4"ers, they sound surprisingly good with a bit more power behind them, and crossed over. Still, I'm sure a nice set of components moved to the kicks will improve things quite a bit.
Next stage is to toss another 7201 in to drive the upper speakers - not that the speakers really need 230w per channel (front & rear running parallel, so it's 2ohm stereo), but I've always had excellent luck in the past giving way too much power, then cutting the output down so there's massive amounts of headroom - and besides, I set it up to be symmetrical //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
Final stage will be to put a set of coaxials in the rear door stock locations, then some form of attenuation on them... Preferably adjustable... Anyone got any recommendations there? I've never really looked into any after-amp forms of attenuation...
