I got a question. Why are some subs 6 ohms opposed to some subs that are 1 ohm?

Does it make a difference besides impendence?

There are a few reasons why

Application is one of them

In the home world there is a lot more voltage than in a car, so ridiculously low impedance loads aren't really needed.

Also some manufacturers design subs and amplifiers to coincide with each other

Ala JL Audio, dual 3ohm coils and what not.

yup. why do you think jl puts out a different ohm sub than most others, plus puts puts out a amp that puts same power from 1-4ohms? so "their" amp will power "their" sub at "their" subs ohms.

Is it 1ohm or 1.5ohm? I thought it was the latter...

Haha, I guess, although a dual 3 sub is compatible with any amp stable at 1 ohm, even some 2 ohm stable amps, considering impedance rise

Many dual 6 ohm subs were sold in triplets (many times in their own three chambered sealed enclosures) back in the day. This gave either a 1 ohm or 4 ohm load which was perfect for many amps then.
