2011 Sonata and CleanSweep Connectivity

Hey guys... have a quick question. Been installing basic systems for sometime now, so I have pretty good knowledge on how components get connected, etc.

However, this is the first car that I'm going to keep the factory HU, largely because of the navigation in it.

In regards to my car, a 2011 Hyundai Sonata Limited, I have an installation related question for adding aftermarket amplifiers and CleanSweep to my car. I have the Navigation System with Infinity Sound system installed at the factory. With the research I've done after looking at Hyundai's wiring schematics for my system, it looks like it may be hard to obtain a true summed signal.

Overall and end result is that I'm looking to install a JL 900/5 amp, Stealthbox for my car, components (not sure which brand yet) up front and 2-ways for rear fill.

Going back to obtaining a summed signal for the CleanSweep, the signal from the factory HU to factory amplifier is a SPDIF connection; not too sure I can get a connection there. Downstream of the factory amp, there are a total of 8 powered channels from it. One for each tweeter, one for front doors, one for rear doors, and it appears the factory sub woofer is a DVC because there are two pairs of positive and negative wires going to it.

I'm aware of the SSI (signal summing) module, but I'm not too sure it can be used in an application like this? SSI only takes 6 channels of input and I would need at 8 for a true summed signal, correct?

Please let me know with any ideas you may have, as I'm looking forward to getting this install going.

Just connect one set of tweeters one set of mids and the sub DVC or not u just need the signal. So just one set of the sub channels. And I'd suggest something othe than a stealth box unless it's a empty one. Better subs can be had for that money

Thanks for the tip on the connections. I take it I'll just lose balance and fader then? No big deal if that is the case.

As far as the StealthBox goes...yeah I know. Space is an issue though. Any smaller boxes that wont take up too much room in mind?

Well if you look around you can generally find a good shop or even a few guys on here to build a box for you for that cost. And realistically your trunk is around 15 to 20 cubes so whats losing a cube of space for a decent 12 sealed gonna do. In my opinion not to much. Depending on the box you can still keep almost all of your trunk. And honestly for that price a local shop might could do you a nice fiberglass box that will be about the same size and shape as the stealthbox. And by the way if I read right the ssl module only sums the signal it doesn't have RCA outputs you need another part of the cleansweep line for that. And las but not least the ssl can take both front tweet signals both mid signals and both subs signals so you can still fade and balance the system you just won't have the rear for speakers, deck speakers run through it

If you haven't bought the CleanSweep yet, look at an AudioControl LC8i. It has internal signal summing, 4 channels of preamp outputs (CleanSweep only has 2) You would get to keep your fading and balance capabilities. The only downside is the CleanSweep has the digital equalizer, and the AudioControl does not.

Price is a little better too... $230 for the AudioControl, $300 for the CleanSweep.

CleanSweep + CL-SSI interface = $410

AudioControl + (Depends on how many bands you want) = ~$280+

Im honestly waiting for the Rockford 3sixty.3 that comes out in mid feb. It's tiny and has alot more options than the cleansweep, though it is a bit more expensive //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Funny how you mentioned the AudioControl unit. I was just looking on their site and saw the LC8i, along with the model that has the digital EQ built into as well. All though, it looks like it's manual adjustment for that and is around $600 for the one with the built in EQ.

I havent bought anything yet, so this is a good possibility. I had originally leaned toward the CleanSweep because it's supposed to correct for any equalization the factory amp adds in. Is the price increase for the CleanSweep over the LC8i worth it???

If I understand how the SSI connects to the CleanSweep, there is a cable that comes with the SSI that allows you to plug directly into the CleanSweep from the SSI.

That's totally user dependent... To me, absolutely not. You should be able to correct most of the problems with a single 5 band EQ, which you can get pretty cheap. To the average listener, you probably wouldn't even need to correct, or equalize.

If I were you, and was still undecided when I go to buy, I'd buy the AudioControl, and test it out. See how it sounds for a couple days. If you don't like it, return it, and buy the CleanSweep.

As for that RF 3Sixty.3, I would never personally spend that much just to keep the factory head unit.

Sorry I was under the intention that you where only talking about the SSI module. I honestly took a second look at the jl just because I need to do the same thing. Like I said I'm just going to wait for the rockford which has a auto eq, time alignment, among other features just because with it I will only have one module and few connections along with the two cig pack size and decent price well not really price wise 699 retail.

I don't really have much choice: audison bitone, jl cleansweep, the Rockford, jbl ms8, alpine h660, all have high price tags

My problem is I cant install an aftermarket radio in my car without stupid modification

i myself recommend the ms8 it's a great piece of equipment with a proven track record. just take the outputs of the factory amp and run them into the inputs of the ms8 then have the ms8 feed the factory speakers and it'll sound ALOT better.

So you're suggesting to keep the factory speakers and have this power them (and make the adjustments for sound)? I don't mind spending the $800 for it, if it works.
