Greetings everyone..A question has been aroused from my nephew about replacing his touch screen hu in his Volvo S40/2010 model, in which he took to a Local car Audio shop and was told that it would be very expensive and best just not do it till adaptable parts are readily available at a later time to save some $. I myself have done several installations in several vehicles, but never in a Volvo of late models per say.I have looked vaguely into the replacement of an after market unit in which seems to be very little information on installing/or an adaptation of the existing utilizing the unit in place. There is always the easiest solution of installing an after market within making it quite functional for all after market amps ect while keeping the existing unit in place and functional other than audio, in which is always the easiest route rather than chopping up and trying to utilize the existing functionality and having issues down the road as well as headaches to follow.Have any of you found or installed a fully functional touch screen unit for this vehicle? If so, what parts and steps have taken place?Ive been installing car audio for well over 15 years and it seems that the newer vehicles are becoming more and more of a PITA.Thanks, and Rant on if you will, and all information will be considered and appreciated as well

Well hardwiring a double din wouldnt be an issue, but mounting a non readily made dash kit would still be easy with some glass work.

I dont see what would be expensive.

Only issue i see is the radio being routed thru the alarm causing some functions of the car not to work.

I agree with you on that..He has the Dyno package in which i havent found anything that plugs and plays per say..Gauges ect run through that touch screen/integrated with other functions as well.I myself am considering running a secondary unit that is easily done and has worked for me in the past, and easily done just disconnecting the speakers/capping off and running all new wiring ect to an external unit keeping the existing fully functional other than sound of course, given some freedom of a newer unit and newer capabilities/functions ect.Not hard to build a nice casing and wrap in vinyl to look nice and be functional from the drivers seat to match the scheme of the interior as well.Ill go that route it seems..get some power in there and some good quality speakers..Seems to be the only option at this time

Dont really want to modify the existing dash..But that existing hu also controls other functions of the dash itself..like gas gauge cluster ect, reason it more than likely needs to stay in place due to integration of other functions
