Hi, my friend and I are installing a new Kenwood MP342U HU into a 2004 Mitsubishi Outlander and running into a problem. We didn't get a wiring harness and so we're matching up the wires from here to the CD player wiring from the manual. it does not have the infinity sound system as far as we know.

We got it to the point where it would read and eject a cd, but nothing on the display showed up. We orginally did not use the two wires;

Car Radio Illumination Wire: Green/White

Car Stereo Dimmer Wire: Black/Yellow

but when we had one of them hooked up the cd player all the lights for the buttons flashed, but still no display and we cannot recreate that. At this point it also does not eject a disk... we haven't tried the reset button and hoping very much that we did not fry it.

Any chance someone can assist us?

re-attaching the stock harness would be extremly hard at this point, there is very little wire left. never used a harness before because we've never had problems =/ also the car, somehow, has no fuses for the radio.. the slot that the owner's manual says is for the radio is not a fuse slot. we checked the fuse in the back of the new cd player and it's fine.

Go to the junkyard and hack a harness of another outlander... leave yourself lots of slack. Cutting the harness is sloppy at best, whether it worked or not, it's still stupid and a hackjob. Not to mention newer vehicles (early '00 and up) often use data communication with the stock unit and makes hardwiring a bit more difficult if you don't know what you're doing. Sometimes multiple things are tied into odd circuits. I remember on my old escort, my tail light fuse blew and my radio didn't work until that was replaced. Check every fuse in the fuse box/es.
