2002 Honda Accord & Metra Kit Fit Issues

Hello. I'm wondering if anyone has experience installing a Kenwood Double-DIN into a 98-02 honda? I have a 2002 Accord. Neither of the Kenwood trim pieces make for a clean install. Nor does the one provided in the Metra 99-7801 Installation Kit I ordered. It is at least 3/16" narrower than the opening in the Honda. Any ideas/suggestions? I'm not opposed to doing some custom work (though I had hoped not too) and would appreciate any guidance. Thanks.

get a dremel or sand it by hand.

had to do this for a 99 tiburon. the mounting kit didn't sit well with it's positioning nor would it even accept the cage of a head unit, nor the head unit itself. had to take a dremel to it and now fits perfectly.

OK thanks. I will try to get the Kenwood trim piece to fit. The problem is neither trim piece is wide enough. I'm thinking about building it out with some plastic epoxy, then sanding and painting the unit for a clean look. Will keep everyone posted.

Thanks FierceTimbo... I was just about to go that route but finally got the Metra kit to work using the supplied (cheap) plastic brackets. It mounted the unit back just enough so that the supplied trim plate fit with an extremely small gap that is unnoticeable to all but me!

I may still customize the dash insert but want to wait until I get an extra insert from a salvage yard so I can bring the car back to stock before I sell.

I can't post a picture here but the finally install looks good and I'm very pleased with the Kenwood DDX812.
