I recently bought an 01 Suburban 2500 as a tow vehicle for my race car, a factory Five Racing 818R. The radio was suspect so I replaced it with an inexpensive Kenwood so I could have some tunes, Bluetooth and XM for long hauls.
I have the radio working thanks to attaching the remote antenna wire to the pink wire on the aux connector to turn on the amp.
I have also replaced the door speakers with new aftermarket units.
It seems now that the external amp is shot. I am happy to simply bypass it, but how best to do that? I can see the amp behind the glove box. It works, but I am getting distortion and some popping, which I know can ruin the speakers.
The original head unit is an FM20EV. and the AUX is an external cassette deck. Seems common.
Before ripping the amp out and having a mess, I wanted to see if anyone has feedback on how best to bypass it?
Does it have an in and an out plug I can simply plug into each other. That would be too easy!
Can I easily replace the amp with an aftermarket unit?
Is there rebuilt units I could buy?
Also I know the sub in the back is shot and have not replaced it yet. Like I said it is a tow vehicle so having tunes in the front is plenty. But I would replace the sub if I could get the stock amp working.
Thanks in advance for feedback, jokes, and uncontrollable laughter at my product choices!

PS. I don't want Onstar either so no worries there.
