I have the stock Bose system in my 'Vette and what I want to do is keep the Bose Head Unit and CD Changer but use new Mids and Tweeters in the doors and use 2 new small subwoofers in the rear. I've been told that if you dump the Bose speakers that you have to get rid of the Bose Head Unit and CD Changer. I've also heard that it can be done. I'm confused. Can it be done and if so, how?

Thanks for your help in advance.

I personally like Bose, i think the speakers/tweets give off excellent SQ, as well as the subwoofer in the back, althought thats not very loud..at all.

Kepp the bose speakers and tweets, and throw a pair of tens back there and youll be set. Changing the HU is completely up to you..

I'm curious, what do you think of the sound of the stock Bose system?

Because I've heard that they ****. No highs. No lows. Must be Bose.

I would check the impedance on the speakers, then you could find out if you could replace them. If they are around 4 ohms, I don't see why you couldn't replace them. Is there an RCA cable, or other signal cable, going to the Bose "sub" that you could re-route to a sub amp?

At best the Bose System, in my 'Vette, is an inaudible mid-range only system.

I think the subwoofers are in the door.........I think???

The problem with bose speakers is they usually have a very low impedence. Most of the time you can replace the speakers and run them off of the factory amps but the results are usually subpar. If you are going to replace the speakers anyways you are better off replacing the headunit as well.

as far as the subwoofers go, id check out something along these lines, I wont post the website because I dont know exactly how the rules work around here as far as sponsers and such, but pm me if you dont already know about them, heres some pics...

If you want to keep stock head unit look into the JL CleanSweep.

The reason that people say that you have to trash the HU if you replace the speakers is because the stock HU is insanely equalized especially for the bose speakers/tweets/sub and the signal going to your new speakers will be distorted and uneven. The cleansweep is basically an auto-eq that evens out that signal before it gets to your amp.
