2 shivas vs. 1 SE

i have 2 shivas in a cube each. i was going to build them a bigger sealed box but i might be able to get a 12" SE for cheap. i have a jbl600.1 which would have more spl, 1 SE 12 in its rec. ported box (im assuming about a 30hz tune) or 2 shivas sealed of the same jbl 600.1? i ask this because i have NO experience with re subs but i would like try one. car audio is addicting.

Tough call...the Shivas have double the cone area, but the ported SE would have similar output...

could you build the Shivas into a ported box?

nah. i have a nissan maxima but i cant fit over 4 cubes for the shivas and go golfing with friends. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif ive never run a ported setup so i have no clue what to expect from it, especially just 1 SE. but it is tempting...

I would go dual Shivas...and possibly upgrade the amp in the future to gain more output.

i plan on putting them in a 3 cubed sealed box. there are no plans of upgrading as i dont want more power to strain the electrical system. its just i can get the se for 120 and its so cheap its tempting.

go for the se. espically if its ported running its rms @2 ohms. it will sound nice for you. i want to run a single 12

I woudlnt run the se over the shivas, but if you decide to, talk to me about those shivas, I may be able to put them to good use.

Adire told me that a good small sealed box for one shiva would be 1.5 cu ft with 1 pound of polyfill. Shivas like big boxes and if you build them small, you should compensate with polyfill. So I have a few suggestions for you:

1. Build the 3 cu ft box with 2 pounds of polyfill and see if you like it

2. Build a 3 cu ft box for one shiva and port it; see if you like it (make sure to keep your gain down, set it for 300w with the "gain setting equation")

3. If you are that curious, buy the RE and port it.

Personally, I would port one shiva and use it in my car and port the other one for home theater use.

If you like the trunk space go with the ported box. Shivas take a large sealed probably be around 3.5cuft with all displacements. The SE would save space.

^^^ thats been the original plan. 3 cubes is what i plan on doing but im making a box out of baltic birch which is a little pricey. so once i build a bigger box for the shivas im done with subs for a few years..its just so tempting to try 1 12" and impress people with it. im just afraid of how ported is for sq... all ive heard are sealed setups.
