2 MB Quart DWE-304 ss sealed in a prefab. 2 websites say 350peak, online car stereo says 350rms. which ones right and assume i power them at exactly what they need which i think is 200 rms.

vs.....

1 FI q 12'' sealed. getting 1000rms from a Hifonics amp.

all going in a 02 maxima's trunk which will be getting deadened this summer.

which will wang louder?

which will sound the best SQ wise?

also i want the most space possible so i'm going to wall it off and do them in the smallest possible sealed boxes. is there a big advantage in using the max sealed volume vs the smallest? does it give more output?

thanks guys,

torgus

oh this is for my friends maxima btw...my Rs are just fine. but i'm interested in the sealed size question for my custom box install. i too want usuable space. + i have other plans for the trunk....

and and i assume the two MB12's will displace more air then 1 FIq12...thus more SPL...unless the Q has double the Xmax afaik even then only when it's wanging hard...now two Qs on the other hand...

thanks for the info. i thought the Qs would get louder cheaper. all he needs is an amp for those vs a new FI Q and Hifonics 1600 amp.

i keep telling him to go ported and have it tuned high but he ignores me. he says he has to go sealed for SQ but i'v heard decent ported 12s play well however they were tuned high and obviously it had the added SPL from the porting of the boxes.... i do realize it would take up more space which again isn't what he wants but i think we could fit one custom built 3 cubed box ported at 38HZ in there and still have alot of space

anyone got an answer for the difference in size a sealed box makes? .8 cubed vs 1.2 cubed?

The larger box will be slightly more efficient and will have a better bottom end. The smaller box will have better mechanical power handling.

High tuning on a ported box makes for a peaky response and typically results in a one note fart box. If he is after SQ sealed is much easier to get right and takes less space.

x2 But question for both me and the poster... With either one of those subs would .4 cubes yield a big gain in bottom end/more efficient? Better yet, would you gain an audible difference with as little as .1 cubic increase/decrease?(I know this will change with different subs, just always wondered this question)

.8 vs 1.2 is about double the sealed box size. i'd like to know the difference.

i thought you tune high for a better overall sounding ported box. tuning low i thought was only good for SPL Farts...

You are right, the amount of change is going to vary with the sub and not so much the amount of volume added as the percentage amount of volume added. For example if the sub is already in a 5cf box, adding .1 to that is only a 2% change. Adding .1 to a .5cf box though is a 20% change. The degree of change in efficiency and bottom end response will be relative to the percentage change.

Most subs have a decent sized range of volumes where they will sound essentially the same. 10% change in volume is almost negligible sealed. It might make a huge difference ported depending on the sub.

That is exactly backwards.
