I had a 15" sealed and it sounded like shit, I don't recommend it.

SQ is an opinion, but I have never liked the sound from the L7... I have read that L7 installs have won numerous SQ competitions though. It really depends of your preference and definition of SQ. I would recommend trying a low tuned ported box as I've heard L7s dont like sealed.

i thought the L7's were pretty much a spl sub in a way.

L7's just aren't designed to be an "SQ" driver. In a sealed box they might be a tad more accurate, but a ported box is where they belong. You're going to lose output putting them in a sealed box.
