Hello, I have 2 L5 12" kickers that are practically new. I would like to get your guys opinion on what amp would be best to use. I am thinking of a kicker 1500.1 amp? Any other recommendations would be appreciated. I believe the subs are 2 ohm and I would like to wire them down to 1 ohm?

Thanks

Thanks, I appreciate your help. How would I go about wiring the subs to .5 ohms and do you recommend this? From what I've always heard the lower the ohms the better it hits? Would it handle the same amout of power if wired to .5 ohms? Thanks

zx1500 is stable at 2ohms and as a beginner, i wouldn't bother running it below 2 ohms.

Find an amp that does about 1500rms @ 1ohm. whats your budget? budget amps include hifonics, audiopipe, used sundown, used audioque, etc.

To wire your subs, connect all the positives together and connect it to the + terminal on your amp. Do the same with negatives, that is connect all the negatives together and connect it to the - terminal on your amp.

I would like to get full potential out of these subs and make them as loud as I can. They are 4 ohm subs so should I wire them to 1 ohm and if so what rms will I need then for two of them? I am on a fairly tight budgt and may even end up waiting to build these up if it costs too much I just hate having them set there in my closet though.

Yeah, i feel you. we all been there where half our products waiting for money to come around or other products to come in. Your subs are rated at 600rms each, so you would want atleast a 1200rms amp. You want an amp that does around 1500rms @ 1ohm. So search around this forum to see what people run for a budget. Super tight budget to some people on this forum means spending 700 on an amp, others mean

Thanks i appreciate it. So just because the subs are wired down to 1 ohm it doesn't change how much power they can take - it's still 1200 rms both for whatever ohm they are running on? Also what's the most power you think these kickers will handle at 1 ohm? I want to feed them as much power as they'll handle. For a budget I'm looking in the 200-300 range if possible bt cheapers better. Thanks

Well, no.. if an amp is rated at 1500 @ 1ohm, it will push the 1500 to both your subs since you wired the subs to 1ohm, so each sub is getting 750rms. Your subs won't blow from an extra 150rms each. I wouldn't give the L5s more than 800rms before they start heating up. I know L7s can take abuse, but not sure on the L5s. With the budget you specified, the manufacturers i gave u should fit that budget. Sundown and Audioque makes amps with clean signal. Hifonics might do rated, but with a dirty signal.. but i wouldn't count on that blowing your subs. Hifonics are great budget amps. Check the classifieds in this thread. Lots of amps for sale for super cheap. You wanna find an amp thats rated anywhere between 1500-1600 at 1ohm. The reason i say this is not because i want you to push 800rms to each woofer, but with various calculations, box rise, voltage drops, your not gonna actually see the 1500 from the amp, you will see more like 1100-1200. So to compensate for that lost, you get a bigger amp. Otherwise, you can wire ur amp to .5ohm load, reduce box rise, etc. but thats a whole another story thats not a beginner's route. Any questions shoot me a PM

Thanks guys, what do you think would be best the MB Quart or the Cadence?

I am also going to be looking for the best vented box I can get without overpaying. And also do you think I will need a dry cell battery if I am running this much power?

Also I wouldn't mind getting an amp that would over power them a little, I figure the L5's can take it? I have 2 comp 12's now with a soundstream 480.2 bridged and I know they take the overpowering well and actually hit really hard for what it is. But I know the L5's are going to be a huge improvement.

Thanks, I appreciate it!

The MBQ is a better amp then the AP. But if you are on a budget, the AP is more than suitable. The AP will do rated...Id consider taking the AP and with the money you save over the MBQ, putting it toward a quality box...A good box is a very important variable in the boom equation

Thanks kr15, I will think on it and see which one I want to get. I read some reviews on the MB Quart and it looks like it doesn't draw as much power from the battery on one of the reviews I read which would be great. I hate to do it but I know I am probably going to have to buy a kinetik battery to help run the 1500.1 amp?

Any idea where to start looking for good boxes on here that I know will work well with the L5's? I don't want to buy a junk box that hasn't been tested and was just pieced together. Thanks
