Car: 04 maxima

Alt: OEM 110amp

Wire: 1/0 from battery to trunk

Amp: Hifonics BD1605 playing at 2 ohms - roughly 1000 watts

Would this amp be enough to kill my alt?

I had no dimming or any issues and then driving down the road the car shut off. I had the alt replaced and everything was fine. About 1 week later, same thing. I had another alt put in, fired it up to make sure everything still worked, which it did, and then pulled it all. No issues since.

i have a stock 90 amp alt in my 1995 jeep wrangler and it handles 1000 watts easy with minimal voltage drop and its still kicking. voltage would go from 14.4v to just under 14v, perhaps u should check all ur wiring.

I have had some smaller amps in and never had a problem. Then about a week after putting the larger amp in the issues started. the amp seems to be fine so i thought it would have to have been the alternator.

Thanks for the input

i doubt it is your system causing you alt to go bad. pretty sure your alt just died and then you got a lemon replacement.

on a stock system witht hat much power all that you really need to have a stable electrical is a better battery up front. like a deep cycle or such.

x2 but if he put a batt in between the amp and alternator it will be bettetr even if its a small batt

I had a pretty good battery in the, 960 cca. I went ahead and bought a new one when I put the 1st new alt on. I have not had any issues but gave been a little skiddish to put an amp back in. I am thinking I will put my small (400 watt) amp in and just put it on my old solobaric 12 (d series). Surely that will not hurt anything.

put the hifi back in. it's fine. i used to run a soundstream pca200d(roughly 1800w) on a stock honda battery w/o big 3 with no problems. voltage drops and dimming like a mother fucker but never did my alt go out.
