2 12 sx or 1 18 MT?

Technically, if you give them the same amount of power the 18" MT should be louder. An 18" subwoofer has 254.34 in.^3 of cone area, while 2 12" subs have a total of 226.08 in.^3 of cone area, if my calculations are correct.

The area of a circle = (radius^2)pi

I would take the SX's over the 18" MT because right now....the basket situation at RE really has put a stall on making 18" subs. But also, for general daily driving, the 2 12's are more what i like.

With the same power...

The 1 12" put up better #'s than the MT 18...

I run a MT 15 daily, and it put the same 2 12"s to shame....Equipment and power is secondary. Testing is what gets your vehicle loud.

thanks guys the reason i had this thread is because, 2 12" sx = 498(not including shipping) and one 18"MT is 475 (not including shipping). I figured if i'm gonna spend that much money why not get an MT if its gonna be louder.

What happens if i do use the MT as a daily driver will it lose it's performance?

Since theres a stall on the 18" then do you think the 15" MT will out perform the 2 12" sx in spl?

Any sub can be 'fine' for daily, even 'good'. But, the XXX will absolutely kill the MT in SQ while retaining almost the same output abilities. Im not disputing anyone has made a good sounding MT install, but RE has made it clear the MT is their SPL monster, while the XXX is their SQL monster. And both are superior to the other in that category.

So its a simple question really, do you want an SPL machine that might sound 'good' 95% of the time you listen to it (in a daily), or do you want a setup with 95% of the SPL (or whatever) while maintaining amazing SQ? IMO if you are not sure between a XXX or MT, you are unsure of your over all goal for the install, or you are unaware of the benefits and drawbacks of each driver.

Have you used both of these subs?
ooh, ooh, i think i know.....

let me guess. He hasnt, so void his entire post. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/clap.gif.178cba2c538c68e720c727fcb024b19c.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/thumbsup.gif.3287b36ca96645a13a43aff531f37f02.gif
