2 12" mags vs 2 audioque hd312

hmm, now im really on the fence again.. 2 12" mags would run me more than 2 2 hd3's but sound better, 2 hd3's would cost less and get louder but not sound as good, 1 12 hd3 is a possibility, but i would like to go with at least 2 12's because i am sealing the front of the sub box up against where the seat folds down, so the box has to be pretty big ie 2 12's or 1 15

its not like an HD3 sounds like *** and is a one note wonder. Sure i guess it wont sound as good as a mag... (never hearing one) but that can be your preference if you end up liking the AQ's because of output and still brilliant accuracy.

Mags and HD3s are about the same price.....

and definitely dont send 2500 to one mag 15, the hd3 would be okay though.

That thread has been going forever, so most of it is old stuff....actually all of it is, because it's kindof in a rebuilding process right now, so I've been thinking of taking some update shots.

Judging from what people are saying, 2 12" Mags with 2500watts will be about equal to 2 hd3 12's off 2500watts. Now 2 12" hd3's with 5000watts will be noticably louder but you were asking will that extra spl be worth $800. But nobody can answer that for you because nobody knows your preferences or taste. Here is what I would do...

Either A) get the 2 12" Mags, port them, tune higher (33), and see how you like that, you may get what you are looking for and save a lot of money....

or

B) get 1 12" hd3 for now off 2500watts...see how that does, then upgrade accordingly, to 2 12" hd3's, and then eventually to 2 12" hd3's off 5000watts. This way you upgrade gradually.

Dont spend any unnecessary money when you can do things in stages. Also, if the mags dont work out for you, Im sure that you could sell them and make good money back, especially if you knew they wouldnt do the job and you sold them fairly new. Then you could go the hd3 route.

I usually do 141's/143's in my car with my sealed Mag 12's. I wasn't going for SPL at all with my setup, but they happen to get moderately loud. Now, before some people go totally ape-$hit with "why do run over 2k watts if you're not concerned with loudness", let me state that I love headroom and I always overpower everything - fronts, midbass's, subs, etc.

But yeah, low-to-mid 140's in a SQ car. Loyd, on the other hand, is doing 150 with two 12's and his Mag's still sound great!
