Hi, I really need some help on deciding, this is an age old question, with millions of variables. Atleast I will try to document most of the variables:

The woofers in question are pioneers ts-w257d2 for the 10s, and ts-w307d2 for the 12s.

The box for the 10 is 2.4 ft^3 after port displacement, port is tuned at 36. slot ported box, 2.5 inches of port. In the trunk of a 2002 toyota echo. Being powered by 700 watts RMS.

The box for the 12s is 2.8ft^3 sealed. Same car same power.

Which will go louder? Which one might sound better? Should I use a different woofer for this purposes? This woofers are the cheapest that i can buy, can get 2 of them for 100 dollars, so i am pretty much set with those. Still, I am open to suggestions.

sealed will sound better and tighter while ported will be louder but might lack the transit response and "possibly" sound boomier... a huge variable in this factor is how well the boxes are designed (esp ported) and what the driver is designed to play in, and how much power they are getting

i say get teh 12's and try sealed.. if its not loud enough.. port them

hell one 12 ported would probaly be louder than two 10's sealed.. hell one 12 sealed would be louder than two 10's sealed...

from what i hear ported can sound very very good but im going sealed my next route cause i just wanna see the difference for myself.

I tried the sealed/ported thing and the sealed box lacked the lows I wanted. I think you have to have a ton of cone area to get good sound from a sealed enclosure.

edit: then again, my drivers were not designed for a sealed enclosure:confused:

another cosnideration is the type of music you listen too.. rap and similar youll prob want ported.. rock ect... most likely sealed...

x2

and also take into consideration they're 10's... i'd personally throw 10's in ported over sealed 12's... 10's will still sound great sq wise and the port with throw out that much more umph
